Pastors
The Rev. Dr. C. Gray
Norsworthy
Gray Norsworthy was born in
Billings, Montana, and moved to Atlanta when he was eight weeks
old. He grew up in Atlanta and graduated from The Westminster
Schools. After attending a Baptist church throughout his childhood,
Gray began attending a Presbyterian church while doing his
undergraduate work at the University of Virginia in
Charlottesville. He graduated from UVA with a B.A. in English in
1979 and returned to Atlanta to work in marketing at Southern
Bell.
When he was called to the ministry,
he entered Columbia Theological Seminary where he completed a
Master of Divinity with distinction in 1985. He was ordained a
Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (USA) on
July 21, 1985. Gray later earned his Doctor of Ministry degree
through McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago, Illinois in June
of 1997.
Gray has served as the Senior
Chaplain of the ecumenical Big Canoe Chapel (2008-2010). Prior to
that, he served as the Senior Pastor of Shallowford Presbyterian
Church in Atlanta (1994-2008), Senior Pastor of Covenant
Presbyterian Church in Staunton, Virginia (1989-1994), and
Associate Pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Snellville,
Georgia (1985-1989).
Gray and his wife Pam have three
children: son Mason, and daughters Cammie and Maggie. Pam is a
writer, producer and TV journalist who balances her time between
work and volunteering at the girls' school. Their dogs Chica and
Ginger round out the Norsworthy clan. When Gray has some free time
he enjoys playing the guitar, recording music, reading, hiking,
running and trying to play basketball.
A few words from Gray:
"One of my favorite TV series was The West Wing. I think I have
every season on DVD. Whenever President Bartlett, played by Martin
Sheen, had made up his mind about some situation he would ask,
'What's next?' If anyone had any other ideas, he would listen. But
when it was time to move on, he would say it again: 'What's next?'
So what's next for Johns Creek Presbyterian Church? What's the next
opportunity or challenge we're called to tackle together? I'm
energized even considering what God has in store for this season in
the life of Johns Creek Presbyterian Church. What an
incredible honor that God may give me the opportunity to serve as
your pastor."
